Independence is taught. Students do not suddenly become organised in Grade 11 if Grades 7–10 were entirely adult-driven.

Small reflection rituals that work

  • After practice: “What was the key idea? Where did I get stuck?”
  • Keep a short error journal with one example per mistake type
  • Plan the next session’s first ten minutes based on last week’s weak topic
  • Explain one problem to a parent or peer each week

Educators should gradually reduce scaffolding — not remove support overnight. The aim is a student who can start work without waiting for a hint at every line.
